Final Product- Harmony Magazine.

This is my final music magazine. I exported the photoshop file into JEGP file to ensure that the layers from photoshop will not unbalance the final pages.

Contents page - 3rd, 4th and 5th Photo shoot.

PHOTO SHOOT 3, 4 AND 5

I took new photos with different models for my contents page. I used 6 models in total for my contents page.

I used Haggerston School playground to take pictures of my model, Gulistan.

I manipulated the shot with different camera angles, lighting and composition to make the picture more interesting and to emphasise her dominance in the music industry.

The picture on the left looks duller, darker and desaturated therefore; I adjusted the exposure and contrast level on the picture to lighten the shot bit more to symbolise her power and rise in the music industry. I used 'BeFunky.com' to use unique effects on these pictures. I used 'Vintage Morning 1' which brightened the picture even more. This made the plants look more alive and it emphasised the ambient light behind her.

2nd photo of Gulistan:

I really like this picture because the background could symbolise her busy and chaotic lifestyle in Hollywood after her success. I slightly zoomed into my models face to manipulate a crowded environment and surrounding by tensing and denying the composition of the shot. I increased the level of contrast in this picture to emphasise her features. I used a Vintage effect to create a darker colour to emphasise the vibrant colours in the picture.

Second model: Shima Akter

I decided to position my model on stairs to portray her 'down to earth' attitude in her music. Also, by sitting on the stairs, her juxtaposition has allowed her to engage with the audience through her eyeline match with the lens. I increased the level of contrast in this picture as well to embrace and highlight her hair colour, the flowers in her clothing and her retro lipstick. Since the DSLR camera I used was HD, it exploited the imperfections on my models face, therefore; I used FlashSpot to hide and cover her spots to create a smoother and more flawless face for the publishing.

2nd picture of Shima:

I am going to choose the best picture from our photo shoot to display on my contents page.

3rd model: Funmi Foloyan

I experimented positioning the camera in different angles to create a more interesting shot for my audience. I tilted the camera slightly to the right to create an illusion of being laid against the wall. The tilt could represent the sudden change she has experienced throughout her work in the music industry. I lightened and brightened the shot a little by increasing the exposure and decreasing the contrast level.

4th model: Fatima Sheikh

I really like this shot because of the lighting and the shadows in which the glasses above the model created. I took this photo in a terrace which had great lightning and space to position my model into. I decided to position my model between the stripy lines to symbolise her being under spotlight that is caused by her fame and success in her music. I cropped the right hand side of the picture because it made the shot look unprofessional. I brightened the shot to embrace the good lighting we had in the terrace by highly increasing the exposure level. As the exposure level increased, my models costume (blazer) started to brighten up like the colour of the wall which looked very creative and more effective because it could almost symbolise her rise and acceleration in Hollywood. Similarly, Fatima had some spots on her face ilk Shima, therefore i used FlashSpot to remove her imperfections to create a smoother texture and display.

New photo-shoot that has the potential to be on my double spread. [HARMONY]

EXTRA PHOTO SHOOT

PICTURE 1:

I decided to take pictures that was influenced and inspired by Audrey Hepburn which reminded me of the old Hollywood, Retro Glam. The miss- en-scene in these pictures are used effectively to ensure that the genre and the style of the music magazine is highlighted clearly. I used an oversized retro hat and oversized cat eye sunglasses to portray the vintage style of the photo shoot which relates to my genre really well.

I have also decided to edit these pictures in Duo colours to test and observe the difference which could create a modern and artistic image to my magazine. The vibrant colours were influenced from Pop art which made me change the effects from the original picture. I might collaborate and merge the pictures together into a square to create the style of Pop art.

<----- Duo colours:
1st colour: Grey
2nd colour: Purple
Overall: Plum

<----- Duo colours
1st colour: White
2nd colour: Black/Grey

Overall: Dark grey

SECOND PICTURE:

This picture was again inspired by Audrey Hepburn. My model was wearing one of her famously designed vintage long black dress.

The composition of this picture is cleverly decided because the model is not in the middle of the shot, i have used the 3rd frame rule to take this picture. The proxemics of the model wasp placed quite close to the camera to show that attention was being paid to her, which clearly portrays her fame in the music industry.

The way I adjusted the props had created a very interesting image. The oversized hat covered one of the model eye. This made the shot a bit more fun to look at.

THIRD PICTURE:

I used a very vibrant pink which was quite similar tot he original colour of my magazine, 'Harmony'. However, the pink had overflowed the picture and made the artist look a bit invisible. Therefore, i am planning to change the colour of this shot to a darker pink which will allow the models face to be shown more.

Although its invisible, the shot portrays a fun image because the models hands are placed in front of her mouth and the glasses are being removed. Also, the hats size created a very nice shadow across her eyes.

Reading articles for my double spread page

I picked up 'Deluxe' magazine to get a better idea of what a doublespread page consists of. This magazine is not particularly a music magazine, however, it did help me to understand the style of witting that varies from genre to genre.

The cover of this magazine has also made me understand that I do not have to have so much text to emphasise and enlarge the importance of the magazine or the artist.

I started to read the article on 'Jared Leto' which made it so much easier for me to write an article on my artist, Venus Summer. The style and the quality of writing on this article is not necessarily what I would go for because it sounds colloquial and conversational like, however my magazine is more formal, subtle and structured.

Double spread ideas (rough)

This is my first idea about laying out my double spread page. I wanted this page to have a clean effect with emphasis on the pull quote and the main picture. I also want the title to be enlarged and bold to reveal the magazines importance. I thought that adding a little blog underneath the picture will engage the audience more with the location, event and where it was taken. I will also add the logo and the page numbers.

Double spread ideas and inspirations

I really like the layout of this double spread page because it has a simple design but it allows the audience to focus on the important information and aspects in the page. This will also be really sensible for my magazine theme and genre because the text looks very formal and professional; therefore this theme has a potential of getting some aspects of it and apply to my own.

I also like this example because the picture is clearly positioned and it conveys the producers intentions and the artist very easily. The title is very professional looking and it created a clean and tidy look, layout and style to the page.

This may not be too suitable and appropiate for my music magazine because the text that is used in this page is too small and it looks like an advertisement. However, this page does have really good aspects and features that i can use as an inspiration on my magazine.

The style and the layout of this double spread has been used very effectively to ensure that the superiority of the artist is portrayed very clearly in the months issue. I really like how the title is settles and positioned, which emphasises and highlights Adele's recent success and achievements. I also found the "Women who rock 2012" with a block very creative and effective. however it looks too crowded and the density of the picture is too intense. Therefore, i may use this idea but reduce the intensity and density.

Photo shoot 2- contents page potential pictures

CONTENTS PAGE PICTURES:

MODEL: Yagmur Ozsoy
Location: Enfield, Indoors.
Health and Safety: The candles could have been very dangerous during the shoot because it was flammable and it could've caused injuries.
2- The fairy lights were twisted around the metal conductor, which could've led to electrocution.
How i overcame the obstacles:
1- We placed the candles inside the lanterns to prevent any fire or injuries.
2- We left about 2cm between the metal conductor and the lights to prevent electrocution.
The process:
-  I used Canon 600D DSLR camera in this shoot. I adjusted the settings to portrait and changed the lighting settings according to the amplitude and the temperature. I increased the length of the shutter and chose the continue shooting setting to ensure that i took many shots as possible to choose from. In some pictures, i played with the lighting to make sure that i use different techniques for my contents page. i used flash. candle light, fair lights and natural lighting.
- This is a screen shot of me editing some pictures from the shoot. Here, i was adjusting the exposure level to test out different lighting settings to emphasise the model and the props that are used in the shot. I cropped the left side of this shot because it the whole placard wasn't necessary in this shot.
I have also used a little amount of effect on BeFunky (Vintage 1) to create a darker and nostalgic atmosphere.
Here are some other pictures of me editing the pictures:

2)

3)

- This is a very nice picture because the lighting in this shot is very effective and used creatively. The use of the lighting doesn't appear too exaggerated and unprofessional , which makes it suitable for my magazine. The colours in this shot are quite pastel and saturated which will make the magazine have some colour.
- This is one of my favourite shots because the composition of the picture is used very effectively and interestingly, which emphasised certain aspects in this picture. The fairy light in the left corner made the picture seem more lively and bright. The reason why i mainly focused on the lights on this shot is because, the flash brightened the models face too much and it discoloured the actual colour of the lighting in the room. It also reduced the nostalgic and vintage atmosphere. The models face is posited between the metal fences which emphasis her importance and signifies her purpose on this magazine.

 - This picture portrays more props and signs of indie pop materials. The lantern 's light reflection in star shapes reflected upon the wall and across her chin. This made this shot look very dark in the right side of the picture but emphasised the left corner which makes the audience focus and look at the model. The placard behind the model is a popular vintage creation of 'Betty Boop' which again reflects on my music genre. The wall decoration in this picture created a hipster like imagine and symbolised freedom. Also, the colour blue contrasted with the other colours in the shot.

 - This picture could be easily used on my contents page because i have used stripes and lines in the corners between the pictures, therefore the metal material creates the illusion already.

Updates on my target research and questionnaire on my title and font [HARMONY]

In December 11th, i made a interactive target research and feedback about my title and fonts, the majority of my audience chose the Retro looking, striped font. However, after testing out that font on my cover page, it didn't full fill my expectations on the magazine. Therefore, i researched better and more creative fonts. Here is there video of me questioning and getting their feedback on my title and font:

Updates on my cover page and contents page.

Here are the improvements and changes I've done since Wednesday 5th Feb 2014. I have officially completed my cover page and started my contents page. I am improving couple of things on my contents page to create a more professional and smooth finish.

The development of my titles and the use of fonts.

These are the stages i went through to get the most suitable and appropriate font to use for my title that would probably attract the audience and would empahise its dominance and power. Improvements:

[Harmony] Magazine target audience profile- Readership.

This is my PowerPoint presentation about my target audience profile in which refers to my indie pop magazine called, 'Harmony'. I have come up with several ideas about the product analysis (magazine), the demographics of the readers and the life styles. i have also mentioned Abraham Maslow's techniques to combine my ideas into a media style of work. Lastly, i created a rough Geodemographical summary based upon my audiences profile.
